While there are those people who are living in harmony, there are those who deliberately seek war.
The word is out that some youths in Bon Air Gardens, Arouca, Trinidad, West Indies, have started a deadly war against each other; this war is really between certain gang members of Phase One and Phase Three.
Those gang members are not allowed to step into each other’s territory; since they all have their affiliated zones. Any gang member who is found trespassing on a rival gang member’s territory is severely dealt with; the method is deadly force administered by a firearm.
What is even more disturbing is that the perpetrators of those crimes are young teenagers and young adults.
The police have been doing their best to keep the crime-rate down by making regular patrols in those hot-spot areas.
Unfortunately, whenever a gangster is killed or taken into police custody, another cold-hearted youth fills in the vacancy and the troubled community is back to square one.
I am thinking that this sort of crime can be prevented by parents and guardians taking an active role in their children’s lives; they can pass on to them morals and spiritual values; since that sort of thing needs to happen at home, parents and guardians must lead by example and if the home is devoid of morals and spiritual values, the chances of the children following the wrong type of company would be a high one.
Those youths should wake up from their nightmare, discard all of their weapons and start living in peace.
Bon Air Gardens, Arouca, Trinidad, West Indies, was a lovely place to be proud of (Well, many people who lived there were proud to call it their hometown before all the gang rivalry started).
I am of the opinion that it isn’t too late for those youths to change their lives around; this is possible once the desire for a better life grows within them and that they are given the LOVE and the support of everyone in their community.
Gang problems usually reflect overall problems in a community usually prom poverty, crime and few opportunities. Youth stick together as gangs for protection and belonging.
