Just Pondering Part 336

CigarPenIn old days, people would repair their clothing if it tore or acquired any type of damage to its fabric.

Today, very few people repair their clothing. They probably think to themselves: “Why should I go through the problem of repairing this when I can buy a new one?”

Business people have spent a fortune in advertising; these advertisements are designed to program peoples’ consciousness into consumerism.

It is possible to cut down on the number of items of clothing that is purchased annually. For example: you can sew your own clothing; or, if you are unable to do that, you can learn to sew your own clothing.

If you happen to have socks with holes in them, you can take needle and thread (or if you wish, you can use a sewing machine) to repair them. In most cases, our socks would be inside of our shoes and trousers would hide the view of our socks. So, the chances of a person noticing that you patched your own sucks would be minimum.

However, if you really became proficient at sewing. They would never realize that the socks was repaired even if you were clothed only in your underwear and your socks.

I am of the opinion that repairing your clothing can save you a lot of money on an annual basis; which leaves you with more money to spend on other things.

  1. My mum always used to repair our socks. Sad to say I don’t do my son’s socks. I am rubbish at sewing. Then a pair of socks are so cheap these days, I buy new ones. Keeps me happier. Then I also knit socks and when they break they will be repaired by hand, they are special. :-)

  2. Well… I can sew and I used to mend my clothes years ago, but now… I can see your point why people should, but its so dirt cheap to buy new ones, that people dont bother nowadays.. (Me included). Its just that I dont have the time anymore…

  3. Okay…now you have just gone too far. lol Sew? Hmm no. lol I do take care of my clothes and don’t get a lot of holes. But sew, I can’t see to thread the needle. I have clothes in my closet brand new that have never been worn but I do not buy a lot of clothing because there is no need.
