Just Pondering Part 312

Cute PenWhen it comes to the safety of our home, we can never be too careful.

As responsible adults, we should teach our children not to play with fire (I will admit that I played with fire as a child, but I was more interested in playing with water).

If you live in a very old home, you could think about upgrading the electrical by having it rewired to modern standards.

Also, you may want to think twice before purchasing certain lamps for your home, because a few of them on the market were known to cause electrical fires in the past (Find out all you can about the brand of lamp before purchasing it).

I have noticed that there are a large number of people who have never thought about getting a fire extinguisher for their home; fire extinguishers are good to have around, because there is no special time for an emergency to arise.

Where fire extinguishers are concerned, there are various classes; there are those for electrical fires and there are others for various other types of fires; choose your fire extinguishers wisely.

If you are faced with the position of putting a small fire out at your home, call the emergency firefighter hotline or any main emergency hotline (They are usually toll free); I recommend doing this even though you plan to handle it on your own, because a small fire can lead to a large one; so, just in case you can’t put it out, the firefighters will be there in time to handle it for you before the whole house is engulfed in flames.

Another great idea is to install smoke detectors in every room of the house and remember to check them at regular intervals to see if they are working well.

Many times, people who have installed smoke detectors in their homes were absent-minded when it came to checking to see if the batteries were still good. Remember, a dead battery in a smoke detector is ineffective.

Also, it would be a great idea to have regular fire drills; in that way, family members would have instilled in their minds the things that they need to do when that unfortunate time comes.

In the past, a lot of people have lost their homes (and in some dreadful cases, their lives), due to a fire.

By learning and practising safety, people can have a better chance of preventing some of the fiery mishaps that takes place within homes.
