A Blogosphere Mystery

Every time I checked Alexa to see which blog service provider is high on its list, Google’s Blogger is always ahead of WordPress by an average of 10 points; a part of me is confused by this, because most of the people whom I spoke to on WordPress told me that they have more readership and followers as a result of joining the WordPress community.

I used to have a blog on Google’s Blogger and I can personally tell you that I have way more readership and followers on WordPress than I did on Google’s Blogger.

This makes me wonder: Is Alexa flawed? Or, is Google’s Blogger really ahead despite the fact that most bloggers prefer WordPress?

What are your views on this? I would LOVE to hear your opinion; please feel free to share it, because this is one mystery that I would LOVE to solve as soon as possible.

    • [ Smiles ] That is excellent news for all WordPress users in the UK.

However, the search I did was a general one and not specific to a country.

I truly appreciate your input, Alastair.

I am going to be smiling while I sip on some hot tea knowing that WordPress whipped Google’s Blogger’s tail in the UK!

  1. Maybe it has to do with commitment. Google Blogger may have numbers but maybe not the dedication. I know I feel safer on WordPress. Who knows who has access to backend data in the world of google.

  2. I have a friend on Blogger ( I too have one blog on it though) who claims to have hits in 5 months more than what I had in 7 years of my blogging experience. Yet he has less than 1% interaction compared to mine visible on his blog. Which made me think that blogger might be getting more footfall but from unrelated visitors. On WP its more targeted audience that comes and cares to read and respond as well !

  3. I, too, have lots of hits on my GB but not a single interaction of any kind. I started both blogs at the same time, so I can compare. WP is like a community, GB is maybe just a place for info… ? It wouldn’t surprise me if the numbers were skewed. I know for a fact that the youtube (Google) viewer numbers are manipulated.

  4. Alexa is flawed for it takes its statistics from only those that carry its tool bar in their browser. Most people do not have Alexa, including me.
